100 Word Challenge #17

Lorelei and her friend Cassie lived normal lives. Until they didn’t. Lorelei and Cassie had gone for a walk in the woods. They exchanged banter and admired their surroundings. Their forest had copious amounts of pine trees the girls loved to look at. They has continued walking until they heard barely audible voices. The girls got closer. Lorelei made out two men. Lorelei was fastidious and noticed the men carried guns. She felt a pang of fear and turned around to Cassie only to find her gone. But, how could she just disappear? Lorelei never got to know the answer…

100 Word Challenge- Week 1

On a warm Saturday afternoon, a photographer arrived at a local park. When he got there, something seemed amiss. The park was empty, which was highly unusual. No one was around except for a shadowy figure sitting on a bench at the edge of the park. The photographer thought that the park had an eeriness to it. The man got up and strode towards the photographer. As the man approached, the photographer noted this man’s character was not really affable. The earth seemed to reverberate; the photographer, then, felt a strange sensation as he fell onto a cluster of ladybugs.

Arrest Made Near Shopping Mall

*Not actual photo from the real event

On September 28, 2018,  around 5:30 in the afternoon, outside the Baybrook Mall in Houston, Texas, a woman was detained and searched in the parking lot near the restaurant, Gloria’s. The police officers searched and questioned the woman about a small silvery object found in her pocket. Her husband stayed seated in a  white golf cart nearby speaking with a deputy. A bystander that witnessed the event speculated that “the woman was being searched for drugs.” Another witness thought that perhaps she had taken an item from a nearby store. During the search, her husband waved and signaled to her from a few feet away. Statistics have shown that over the last few years crime has increased in the community. This event has added to the evidence that supports these statistics. In the end, the ordeal consisted of the woman being repeatedly searched and questions.

My Song

“…Covergirls don’t cry after their face is made.” This line comes from the song, “Scars to Your Beautiful,” by Alessia Cara. This song is one of my favorites because it shows how some girls (and maybe boys) hurt themselves just so they can become someone that exists only in their head. This song, “Scars to Your Beautiful,” is one that encompasses me for many reasons.

“Scars to Your Beautiful” motivated me because in the past and at times I have felt insecure about myself. I also know that many girls ( and possibly boys) struggle with thoughts of insecurity.  This song made me realize that it doesn’t matter how we look on the outside, it’s what’s on the inside that counts. It might seem like a cliché, but it is very true. “… so she’s, starving, you know, covergirls eat nothing.” This line in the song made me realize, when I first heard the song , that if I don’t get rid of these thoughts I might become this girl. In addition, the song demonstrated or warned how harming ourselves can cause us to fade away. This is one of the reasons this song is very close to me.

Another line that impacted me greatly was, “…you don’t have to a thing. The world can change its heart.” This shows that although the world might want to force you to look, act, or speak a certain way, you don’t have to do any of it. You don’t have to let the world change who you are. The important thing is that you are striving to be kind to others and showing excellent character; not trying to be someone you are not. this really impacted me and taught me a valuable lesson. A third concept that touched my heart in this song  was the line: “There’s a hope that’s waiting for you in the dark.” Although we might be  at our lowest point there is always hope. When I struggled with insecure thoughts I would think about this song and it would help me realize that I’m not alone and that there is hope out there for me.

To sum up, Alessia Cara’s song, “Scars to Your Beautiful,” has impacted me in a positive way for so many reasons. It’s a song that is truly inspiring for girls (and boys) who are going through tough times.

100 Word Challenge- Week 1

Greenwood- the picture perfect small town where there are no secrets, no danger. That’s a lie. One of our darkest stories started on a sunny day like no other. On this day two high school students and their girlfriends went out to the woods. Two masked men with weapons threatened them and said that it was either them or their girlfriends’ lives. The two boys stepped forward. They took the boys to the old bridge and pushed them into the water down below. This statue was made to remind us of the darkness that lies below our town. Welcome to Greenwood.

100 Word Challenge-Week 18

“Ugh! How much longer until our essences our released from this cruel prison!” said Ataly to her mother, Demitri.

“Patience my nightmare. Our time will come. Your father is working hard to get Cronin to lead us out of this dungeon.” Demitri responded.

Ataly and her mother and father had been imprisoned inside of statues. Their essences were banished to the cruel prison in order for them to pay for their crimes. Their prisons were disguised as statues in Singapore, serving as a tourist attraction.

Ataly was going to seek revenge against those who put her in this suffocating enclosure.

Overlooked, Overshadowed

Overlooked, Overshadowed

By Josselyn Robleto

She’s always overlooked…overshadowed

A wallflower who goes unnoticed…unloved

When she does a right she is overlooked

When she does a wrong she is pounced on by the predator lurking in the darkness

She tries to make herself known

She is just overlooked, overshadowed

Another person who tries to be noticed but ends up cutting a deep hole in her heart

Day by day cutting deeper and deeper

She tries her best to be loved and cherished

She ends up overshadowed, overlooked

No one notices her, no one notices her

…Until she’s gone

*This poem is not based off of my feelings and just represents how some might feel. But remember that you are LOVED and definitely NOTICED. And even if you might feel this way always think of the people that love you.

100 Word Challenge-Week 13

I was being chased down. I felt my power surge through my veins. I heard the pounding of the tiger’s paws hitting the ground. This creature was sent by Lonnrach, the god of  destruction, to annihilate me. I felt Logan running alongside me. We could not stop. I knew  my powers were not yet strong enough to fight such a creature. I just needed to reach our camp; the barrier would provide refuge. As we neared a clearing, the creature pounced. Before we could react, the tiger was blocking our escape. But, no way was I going down without fighting.

100 Word Challenge-Week 12

I was furious. He played me like a fool. He thought I wasn’t competent enough to complete tasks. He antagonized and manipulated me. He tried to sandwich me in between his problems and sins. He thought he had succeeded in sending me to a dilapidated state. But, boy, was he wrong. I was a warrior. I was not going to be pushed around. My energetic soul compelled me forward and this new persistence was like a battery, which gave me power and hurried me on. His sharp sword was no match for my white blade.  I was not a fool.
